Speaking of misbehaving... Ella’s gaze came to rest on the broad shoulders of an unknown black-haired man who was studying the vending machines with deep suspicion. He wore a nice dark suit, white shirt and tie, which meant he was either a regular government employee, or some religious groupie that had inadvertently slipped through security.

Male was probably a more appropriate word than man, because Ella could already tell there was something not quite human about him. As she approached, he turned more fully toward her, and she got her first good look at him. She sighed. He was way out of her league. With his pretty face, height and distinctive cheekbones he could have graced the cover on any magazine. Her appreciative gaze dropped to his broad chest—imagining him, preferably without his shirt on. She’d just bet he worked out.

“What’s up?” she asked as he continued to study her.

He looked even more confused. “I beg your pardon?”

His Russian accent was as divine as his cheekbones, and she actually wanted to squeal a little. She gestured at the five-dollar bill in his hand and spoke very slowly.

“Are you having trouble with the vending machine? Don’t they have those in your country?”

His sapphire-blue eyes narrowed. “Yes, they do, and you don’t need to worry about whether I can under- stand you. I spent four years at Harvard, so I speak American.”

“You do?” She flashed him her best smile. “Then I’ll leave you to it.”

My Review:

Redemption is the second book in The Seven Signs Series.  Erica writing style is easily read.  It's one of those books that you can't put down.  I found myself staying up late at night just to read another page.  I enjoyed the fast paced plot.  Never at any time did I feel bored with the story or the characters.

Since I don't like to spoil the read for others, I won't do a synopsis of the book.  I will say that I'm loving the world of tainted angels.  The characters, Japheth and Rose, were well developed.  I connected to both characters and felt their emotions.  This is what makes a good book, a great book! I really enjoyed the sexual tension between the characters.

Pick up this book and start reading.  You won't be disappointed.

Interview with Ally Malinenko: Author of Lizzy Speare and the Cursed Tomb

I'd like to welcome author Ally Malinenko!   Ally's book Lizzy Speare and the Cursed Tomb was published in September 2012.  Today, Ally is answering questions about Lizzy Speare and herself.  

1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I started writing stories when I was about 10 years old. It was around then that I was reading the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and it hit me that storytelling, what I was doing in my journal at night, was an actual job. It was pretty exciting.

2. Tell us about your recent book Lizzy Speare and the Cursed Tomb.
I'll let the back of the book do the talking: MEET LIZZY SPEARE… …a normal twelve year old girl with a talent for writing, who has a very not normal family secret. And when Lizzy’s father vanishes, that secret will change her life in ways unimagined. (Spoiler Alert! It turns out that Lizzy, or Elizabeth S. Speare, is the last living descendant of William Shakespeare. Shhh! Don’t tell anybody!) Then Lizzy and her best friend Sammy are kidnapped, awakening in the faraway land of Manhattan. Their host is Jonathan Muse, whose job is to protect Lizzy from becoming the latest victim in a family feud going back nearly five hundred years. Is that why the mysterious, eye patch-wearing Dmitri Marlowe is after her? (Spoiler Alert 2—he’s the last living descendant of Christopher Marlowe, a friend and rival of Shakespeare’s. 3. I love the concept of Lizzy and Dmitri being descendants of William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe. Did this concept require a lot of research on your part? 
It did actually. When I first decided that I wanted to write about the descendant of Shakespeare I went out and picked up a couple bios on him. I mean, I had read Shakespeare before - he's one of my favorites - but I knew I was going to need a lot more information. Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare by Stephen Greenblatt was the most useful. It was a fantastic look at a man for whom there is not a ton of biographical information on. When I decided that my bad guy would be descended from Marlowe I read the World of Christopher Marlowe by David Riggs which was also a fantastic bio. I wanted to avoid the "conspiracy theorists" who like to say that they were the same person - which in my opinion is pure nonsense.

4. You are on a deserted island with one book to read. What book would it be and why? 
The collected works of Shakespeare. Wait that probably doesn't count since it's more than one book. Wow that's hard. Just one? Maybe War and Peace. Then maybe I'll actually read it instead of saying "someday" I'll read it.

5. What is your favorite mythical being?
A satyr - that's why Cleo, Jonathan's best friend, is a satyr. 6. Where do you do most of your writing? I write in a closet in my Brooklyn apartment. It's got a built-in bookshelf, and enough room for my desk, my comic books and my cat June. It's comfy and quiet and I feel like Harry under the stairs - only not so miserable, I guess.

7. Name three things you could not live without.
Writing, tea and Doctor Who

 8. What's up next for Lizzy?
 Well I'm working on the second book tentatively titled Lizzy Speare and the Hall of Hecate in which Marlowe begins a war against all of the Mythkind in an effort to undo the Shakespeare legend. We get closer to finding out why Marlowe's anger runs so deep and we uncover some of his past and see why he and Lizzy are so intrinsically linked. As many suspected Jonathan isn't telling the whole truth.

9. My daughter wanted me ask you this question. Do you prefer to listen to Justin Bieber, One Direction or Taylor Swift?
I'm old. All they let me listen to is classical music from my gramophone!

Ashlyn resisted the urge to pull away from his touch. If this was another story about his dear long lost Loritta or the perpetually bratty Trace, she really wasn't in the mood to hear it.

Three years ago, she would have immediately yanked away and jumped up, jabbering something about Drake's selfishness and his inability to let things go or think about anyone but himself.

Today, Ashlyn sighed inwardly and resigned herself to a drab sob-fest about one of two women she hated for the pure fact that they were both incredible and mature and…well, not her.

He was talking about her, sweet Drago, he was saying all that stuff about her. She'd spent a month with Drake before, in close proximity, and he'd never said this much during those entire four weeks, much less in a single conversation.

And what he was saying now…? If she hadn't already been pretty much collapsed into his arms, it would have happened, and probably with a bunch of drama and swoony fluttering, too.

When she met Drake's gaze, his blood-red eyes were solemn, and he raised a hand to cup her face, brushing his thumb across her cheek to remove the last traces of her tears. "You can run from your destiny, Ashlyn, but it will find you regardless," he said.

"I was alone for three years," she told him. I am not leaning into his hand. I AM NOT leaning into his hand. "I'm not the same person anymore. Toryn isn't my destiny anymore. I'll just screw it up, like I have everything else."

"I was alone for almost twenty years," he replied. "You dragged me out of the coffin nonetheless."

"That's different." Don't do this to me, Drake. Don't make me fall for you all over again.

His eyebrows quirked, obviously in disagreement.

Ashlyn frowned, trying hard to focus. "I only asked you to start thinking of yourself as a man,                            Drake, instead of a monster. That's hardly the same thing."

"I'm asking you to think of yourself as a leader," he said. "You've spent so long running from responsibility that you think yourself incapable of fulfilling your birthright."

"We haven't seen each other in three years. You don't know what I'm capable of- I don't even know what I'm capable of."

He grabbed her hand, abruptly, and brought it up to his chest. Through the cloth of his shirt, his skin was warm to the touch, and Ashlyn let him press her hand against the solidness of his shoulder, confused as to what he was doing.

"This," he said, his voice low, "is where I was struck by Devlyn's sword."

After a moment, he slid her hand lower, until it was resting directly above his heart. Ashlyn paused, entranced by the lack of a pulse beneath her fingers, the scent of him filling her senses and enveloping her like the rain against the roof.

"This," Drake said. "This is where I would have been struck, if you had not deflected the blow."

She met his gaze, breathing so hard that she felt light-headed. His eyes bored into hers, piercing her straight to her soul.

"I know what you are capable of, Ashlyn," he said. "I know better than anyone."

While Charity stayed at his bedside, she kept them both entertained by downloading several books on her new Kindle and reading them out loud.
